Jordan Chamberlain made the second round of the UK Winter Series at Shenington a weekend to remember with second place after making two comebacks from positions that looked extremely unpromising. In only his second race in Senior karting Jordan was second only to the championship leader who has a year’s more experience.
After a strong finish in the first heat, where he started from the front end of the grid, Jordan came through from 20th to sixth in the second heat before engine problems forced him out. Despite his disappointment, he was delighted to have made up 14 places in the short eight-lap race and knew he would be able to get to the sharp end in the final.
He started 10th in the final after the non-finish was taken into account, but the race start was delayed when officials were unhappy with the rolling laps and called a halt. After the restart Jordan set about gaining places on the track that was by now dry, and moved up to fifth by lap seven.
After that things got slightly heated at the head of the field and Jordan went through to third when another competitor went wide at a chicane. He then pressured the second-placed driver into a mistake but unfortunately race and championship leader Robert Foster-Jones was too far away to catch by the time Jordan had a free track in front of him and he had to settle for second.
His next race is the third round of the Winter Series on 20th January at PF International in Lincolnshire, but Jordan and his family will be using the Christmas break to look for sponsorship to enable him to compete on the international stage in 2008. He has already had offers from several teams, but more funding is definitely required to help Jordan progress in his racing career.
