Decisions from the CIKFIA World Motorsports Council

  • Future CIK-FIA World Cups for KF2 will be open to drivers who were classified in the top 34 in the previous World Cup and to drivers who were classified in the top 5 (instead of only the top 3) in a national KF2 or ICA championship.
  • Further to the introduction of the new Snell-FIA CMH (Child’s Motorsport Helmet) helmet standard developed in accordance with the anthropometry of young and very young drivers, Article 3 of the CIK-FIA Technical Regulations will recommend the use of such helmets as from 2008, and they will be mandatory from 2009 for drivers under 15 years old.
  • For safety reasons, the following devices will be mandatory as from 2008:
    • a full protection totally covering the chain/sprocket/crown-wheel in all categories without a gearbox
    • mandatory fitting of a protective pad for the rear brake when it protrudes below the main tubes of the chassis-frame
    • mandatory fitting of a protection system covering the rotating parts of the ignition on KF engines which have an ignition model with a protruding and exposed rotor.
  • The validity of Superkart engine approvals has been increased from 3 to 6
    years.
  • The organisation of the 2008 CIK-FIA Panamerican Karting Championship has been granted to Uruguay. This Championship will be held on the El Pinar circuit from 17 to 20 April 2008. This has been added to the Kartlink calendar
  • Panta has won the tender to supply fuel to all CIK-FIA races in Europe, except the Viking Trophy and the European Superkart Championship.
  • Luigi Macaluso has been reappointed president of the commission and the following countries will be represented - Argentina, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland (in partnership with Sweden), France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, United States and Venezuela.
