Strawberry Racing’s Jordan Chamberlain took two wins in the British Junior Kart Championship at Larkhall in Scotland on Sunday (3rd June) but was not given an easy ride by his rivals as the highly competitive championship reached the midway point.
After qualifying, where Jordan was just 0.2 seconds away from pole, and the heats, he found himself on fifth on the starting grid for the first of the main races. He took full advantage of his inside start position to gain a place at the first corner, then steadily progressed until he had the opportunity to take the lead on lap six. Jordon Lennox-Lamb pushed him all the way home, just 0.13 seconds behind.
In the second race Jordan started from pole after his win earlier in the day, and led until lap nine.
“It started to rain, and I wasn’t quite ready for it so dropped down to fourth,” he said. “I started to hunt them down and overtook two drivers while they were fighting with each other.”
Getting into the lead again wasn’t quite so easy though: “I just got past my team-mate but at the last corner of the race he went up the inside and I was pushed wide. He won but the officials were watching and they swapped our places to give the win back to me.”
14-year-old Jordan went to Larkhall lying way down in 22nd place in the championship after a mistaken exclusion at the previous event but, he says “My dad worked out I can still win the championship, I have to win every race from now on though!”
He is in a better position in the Italian Championship, in ninth, despite missing an event due to a clash with the British Championship. Jordan will head out to Italy next weekend to try and improve on that position at a circuit where he came fourth the last time he raced there back in February.
