Harvey hopes to wrap up title at Lonato

Jack Harvey Bassingham based kart racer, Jack Harvey, heads out to the Garda circuit in Italy this weekend with the sole intention of lifting the Winning Series of Karting European title. The factory Maranello Kart driver goes into the weekend with a 12-point lead in the standings and is hungry to add to his current Junior British and Kartmasters Grand Prix titles from last season.

14-year-old Harvey has been the class of the series so far this season, making more trips to the top step of the podium than his rivals and showing consistent form throughout the tough European race weekends. However, he is aware that the final round of the WSK s going to be one of the hardest of his career to date.

“I know that it’s going to be a hard weekend at Garda,” said Jack. “But, I’m going out there to win. I want the WSK title and the whole Maranello team has worked incredibly hard throughout the season, we all want to be on the top step at the end of the weekend and that’s exactly what we intend to do,” he added.

Jack got his 2007 season off to an incredible start, taking victory in the one-off season opening Margutti Trophy. This put a marker down to his new European rivals and he hasn’t stopped raising his game throughout the season as he knows how hard the racing will continue to get as he rises through the ranks on the continent.

Victory in the WSK series would put him at the top of the KF3 class across Europe and show him as the guy to beat in that class and also on of the rising starts of the motorsport world. He has already achieved more success at his age than Jenson Button or new F1 star, Lewis Hamilton, had in their karting days.

“At this level you have to keep pushing and lifting your driving at pretty much every round,” said Jack. “There were 34 karts on the grid in the last final I raced in, it’s incredibly tight at the sharp end of the field, but I want to go out and prove I’m the best. It’s what we’ve worked hard for all season.”

“I’ve won the British title, beating drivers who have been in the category for a couple of seasons at my first attempt. I want to carry on this momentum and repeat the success here in Europe,” he added.

The youngster will get his on-track action underway on Friday with free practice, before he heads into the heats on Saturday afternoon. The two all-important finals will take place throughout the day on Sunday.
