Harvey takes championship third after difficult weekend at Lonato

British karting star, Jack Harvey, ended his WSK campaign with third place in the points after a hard fought weekend at the Garda circuit in Italy at the weekend. The works Maranello Kart driver had gone into the weekend with a 12-point advantage at the top of the table and was aiming to lift the WSK title by the end of the meeting.

Unfortunately, over the course of the weekend Jack was unable to find the pace that he needed to clinch the championship, despite driving as hard as possible in every session. In the first final he claimed ninth place, putting in a fantastic drive to climb up the order after dropping back at the start of the race.

After making several changes to the kart between the races, Jack was able to claim seventh at the chequered flag in the last race of the weekend. However, on dropped scores he had to make do with third in the championship, an unfortunate virtue of staying consistent throughout the season.

“I’m obviously disappointed not to have won the championship,” said Jack afterwards. “But, it’s my first full season at international level and I’ve been right at the sharp end scoring victories, against some more experienced guys, all season. Third place is a great result, but it would have been perfect to have been first,” he added.

“The two guys ahead of me had non-finishes to drop, whereas I had points to take away from my end of season total. They were still ahead of me without the drops, but if they’d had more points to lose it could have been completely different,” he added.

Jack will now turn his focus to the European Championship qualifications meeting next weekend, where he will once again go head to head with his KF3 class rivals in a bid to qualify for the finals meeting later in the year. After that, he will have just one week before he heads into the final round of the Italian Open Masters series, where he can once again take the title.

“The European Qualifiers is my priority now,” admitted Jack. “I want to get a good result there so that I can go into the finals later in the year in a good position. After that, I’m going to go into the final round of the Italian Open series and hopefully lift the title there. It’s definitely what I’m going to be trying to do,” he added.
