European KF3 Kart racing champion, Jack Harvey, has signed to become an official driver for Birel Motorsport for next season, starting with an attack on the KF2 category from the start of the new season.
The Lincolnshire based racer has dominated the junior category across Europe in 2007, becoming the hottest property on the driver market. For the move into the senior class for next season, he has switched to the Italian chassis manufacturer, the biggest in the world, for his charge towards more silverware and titles.
“I’m pleased to have signed for Birel and have everything in place for next season and beyond before Christmas,” said Jack. “Since winning the European title at Sarno at the beginning of September we’ve been contacted by several teams about 2008 and to have a long term plan in place means that I will be able to try and carry on my winning streak into the senior category next year.”
“I’ve had an incredible year in 2007 with Maranello and want to thank them for all of their support and our success throughout this year. However, I want to continue pushing through every stage of my career and I believe Birel can offer me the best chance possible to take more victories next year and on to the eventual goal of becoming the youngest ever KF1 world champion. I can’t wait to start testing the KF2 chassis,” he said.
Before completing his deal with Birel, Jack had a test at his home circuit, PF International late last week, where he was happy with the initial pace of his new mount.
Director of Birel UK, Andy Cox, was more than impressed with Harvey’s first run in one of the Italian manufacturer’s karts and can’t wait for someone of his calibre to take to the tracks in anger next season.
“Although it was only his first run and he was just getting used to the kart he was already confident and up to speed,” he said. “He was unable to run with the front brakes on the chassis, but as he hasn’t used them in KF3 anyway it didn’t faze him one bit and he was immediately pushing and exploring the limits of it. We’re incredibly pleased to have Jack on board at Birel and hopefully we will be able to achieve some top class results together,” he added.
