MGM Racing’s Jason Parrott scored his first international podium in France on Sunday and has soared to third in the European KF1 Championship. Just six months ago it was feared that Jason wouldn’t have the funds to race in 2007 but now he is behind only the professional Tonykart drivers Marco Ardigo and Gary Catt in the championship.
After timed practice and the qualifying heats Jason was ranked third, which would be his starting position for the first of the main races. After dropping back slightly he moved up into second but towards the end of the race a mad lunge from a competitor lost him a lot of time and he came home fourth.
As fourth equals Jason’s best ever result on the international stage he and the team were overjoyed, but more was to come.
In the second race he made a much better start to come round the first corner in third but up against drivers with Vortex engines he was losing five kart-lengths on each straight. He dropped back to seventh during the race but worked his way back through until he was pushed wide by another kart on the final lap. After battling to get past fellow Brit James Calado before the flag Jason was elevated onto the podium when one of those in front of him was disqualified.
He said: “I’d rather I’d achieved the position outright but I’ll take the points however they come!” The results have shifted him up from fifth to third in the championship.
Jason’s next race will be the final round of the European Championship, again in France on at Salbris on August 5th. He races on a Birel kart with an IAME Parilla engine, and sponsorship comes from Tim Parrott Motorsport, who are one of the top UK Rotax teams.
