After Nigel Moore’s recent motor racing wins at Anglesey in Junior Ginetta, the fifteen year old Yorkshire motor sports ace was back in his ICC kart at Llandow in Wales to take a podium place. Racing at the fourth round of the BRDC Stars of Tomorrow series, he took a win, a fourth and a last place in the heats.
Torrential rain during the first heats made his early win more satisfying but luck too played its part as his engine failed just as the race was stopped due to another driver’s accident. After putting his spare engine onto his BRM kart, the Tockwith Motorsports driver posted a fourth place in the second heat but spun to the back in the third heat.
“I just hit a puddle at the start,” he explained.
Lining up fourth on the grid for the sixteen lap final, with top speeds at the twisty Welsh Motorsports facility only some 85 mph, he was soon into third. The track was still damp and all the drivers used wets, which were overheating as the surface dried out. His team-mate came past but the driver in second place skidded off the track, so Nigel was back to third place and a podium position.
“The leaders were out of touch for me today, we got the tyre pressures a bit wrong for these conditions, but I’m pretty happy with third place,” said the student from Long Marston.
Nigel’s next outing will be at Silverstone in his Ginetta Junior sports car this weekend, where he will be eager for more wins to add to his two at Anglesey.
