100% win rate for Ball in KF2

Jake Ball maintained his 100% record in seniors with a second win in the KF2 Winter Series at Shenington this weekend and is now clearly the driver to beat, despite missing the first two rounds due to being too young.

In the first qualifying heat Jake started at the back of the grid and worked his way through to second, but Paul Carr Racing knew there was more performance to come and changed the axle to try to lose some rear grip. It paid off, as Jake quickly picked off the four karts ahead of him to take the lead on lap three and go on to win.

Jake, who is the reigning champion in Junior TKM, started on the front row of the grid for the final next to the other heat winner. He held onto the lead but it quickly became evident that his rival Josh Fielding was faster. Jake used all his defensive driving skills but Fielding passed him five laps into the 14-lap race before Jake re-passed him a lap later. The spectators were on their feet for this but more was to come when Fielding launched a last ditch manouevre to retake the lead going into the chicane. There was contact between the two karts but Jake held on and increased his lead while Fielding dropped back to third.

Finishing 1.5 seconds ahead of his nearest rival, Jake revealed why he had struggled to stay in the lead mid-race. “My rear tyres were wearing down and the kart was quite hard to drive, but I just concentrated on staying on the track and at the front,” he said.

The next target will be the final round of the Winter Series, which will take place at Rowrah on 9th March. He is out of the running for the title, but he is finding it invaluable preparation for his upcoming Super One and European Championship campaigns.

Jake races with the support of Spellfame Karting, who supply his tyres, and Millers, who supply oil, and he is also lucky to have the support of his school, the Oakwood Technology College.
