Marco Ardigo (IT, Tonykart/Vortex) has won the European Championship again after both his rivals, Arnaud Kozlinski (FR, CRG/Maxter) and Gary Catt (GB, Tonykart/Vortex) had problems in Race 2. In KF2 Flavio Camponeschi’s (IT, Tonykart/Vortex) European KF2 Championship made it a perfect day for the Italian manufacturer.
In the first race Kozlinski won from Davide Fore (IT, Maranello/Maxter) and Luca Giacomello (IT, Zanardi/Parilla) who as usual was on Dunlop tyres instead of Bridgestones. Ardigo was fifth after a coming-together with Guignet. At this point Kozlinski was several points ahead in the championship.
In the second race Guignet stormed through from 23rd to take the lead from Fore on the last lap, after Catt the original leader Kozlinski suffered mechanical failures. Giacomello had still been at the sharp end but a crash with Sauro Cesetti (IT, Birel/TM) put paid to his chances of another podium. Ardigo’s third place secured him the championship.
Camponeschi, racing for the Tony Kart Junior Racing Team, won every heat and both finals to finish almost three seconds ahead of Robert Foster-Jones (GB, Alonso/Vortex). Robin Frijns (BE, Birel/TM) was another three seconds behind that.
Clutches undoubtedly had a big influence on the result, even after a test was imposed to determine on the grid at what RPM the clutch started to slip, but more measures are promised for the next CIK races at Varennes (European Junior Final) and La Conca (World Championship and World Cup).
