Catt stars at the Margutti

Gary Catt (Tonykart/Vortex) has won the Margutti Trophy in KF1 for the second year running, in a dominant performance after his fellow frontrunner Matt Truelove (Gillard/Parilla) was scuppered by an engine problem after winning one of his heats. Truelove is one of the most improved drivers of the year so far since his move to PDB Gillard and Mark Rose Motorsport and his tenth place in the final definitely doesn’t tell the whole story. World Champion Marco Ardigo (Tonykart/Vortex) recovered from a puncture in the semifinal to finish third behind Kosmic’s Alessandro Bressan.

In KF2 Zdenek Groman (Maranello/Parilla) prevailed over Giacomo Patrono (Birel/TM) and Tom Grice (Gillard/Parilla) after Jack Harvey’s (Birel/Parilla) engine let go while he was leading. Grice later revealed his kart was bent after a collision with the control tower in the semifinal, so who knows what would have happened there had he been on top form. KF2 had been shaping up to be a British and Irish whitewash after one of the semis saw them take eight of the top ten positions, but crashes and mechanical problems saw many of them sidelined.

Local driver Ignazio D’Agosto (Tonykart/Vortex) took a breakthrough victory in KF3, three tenths ahead of Winter Cup winner Aaro Vanio (Maranello/XTR) after an exciting race where Kevin Ceccon (Maranello/TM) and Michelle Gatting (Gillard/XTR) were also in the mix.

It has been confirmed that the Parma circuit is closing and therefore this has been the last Margutti at the northern Italian track. Next it will move to a still-to-be-built track at Valencia in Spain.

Videos from all three finals from StopandGo.tv are available on the track website along with the results.
