Maisano and Intrepid dominate at Lonato

Striking is not too strong a word to define Brandon Maïsano’s performance. On the Lonato circuit, the chassis of this French pilot literally flew, turn after turn. Many pilots tried to keep up with his relentless pace, but couldn’t. “It was a perfect weekend,” Brandon said. “Both the chassis and the engines worked really well. I would like to thank the two manufacturers Intrepid and TM that put so much trust in me, and Intrepid France and the LM Karting Team for their competence. After setting the best times several times during free practice, I only missed the pole position for seven hundredths of a second. But then, I drove a spotless race.”

No adversity prevented the French pilot from imposing himself in his four heats. With new or used tyres, regardless of track conditions, the result was exactly the same: victory with a good advantage. Competition in the pre-final was very intense, but Maïsano managed to emerge from the pack and won again. In the final, his superiority was even more apparent. The best lap was the only result he could not achieve, but only for eight thousandths. “I showed both a good performance and my perseverance,” Maïsano added. “These two victories are very important, because now I have a 17-point advantage in the WSK provisional ranking. It’s fantastic!”

In KF1, Intrepid pilots were constantly driving in the leading pack. During free practice, for example, Norman Nato scored the best fourth time in his group, just before Yannick De Brabander reached the head of the timesheets with his EGP Team Intrepid, in the following session. Then, it was Roberto Toninelli’s turn to race in the Super Pole, where the ten fastest pilots in timed practice compete. A series of accidents happened during the rest of the race. For example, in the pre-final, there were several collisions. In the final, De Brabander borne the brunt of this situation when he was about to reach the top 5.

Finally, Jérémy Iglesias scored the best result: he finished 8th, just ahead of his team mate Toninelli, and conquered ten positions. Another remarkable catching up was staged by British Jamie Croxford, who climbed 22 positions after a series of mishaps during qualifying practice.

In KF2, Robert Butler was determined to obtain a good result, at the wheel of the same chassis that conquered the second step of the podium at last year’s World Cup in this category. After brilliantly climbing from 21 st to 9th position in the pre-final (and also scoring excellent times), the Irish pilot from EGP Team was unfortunately forced to quit with ten laps to go.
