Kartlink covers international kart racing and is the only British website to regularly be in the paddock at most of the World and European meetings.
From an original list of 65 applicants, Ollie Millroy has been selected by the judges to be one of four drivers on the 2008 MSA British Race Academy Programme. The Claygate teenager, who will contest the Formula BMW Championship Europe this year, joins Jack Clarke (Formula Palmer Audi), James Cole (British Formula Ford) and Rupert Svendsen-Cook (FBMW). On congratulating Ollie, performance director David Brabham said ‘the standard of applicants was very high but Ollie displayed the confidence and potential to succeed in motor racing and we felt that he would benefit from being part of the 2008 Race Academy’.
“To be acknowledged by the MSA and become a British Race Academy winner is a great privilege and I’m very proud to be one of only four young British drivers to be awarded this,” said Ollie. “2008 has started out to be a great year and being a BMW scholarship driver and now having the (MSA) British Race Academy backing me, I’m really looking forward to the season ahead and getting some good results as the year progresses’.
The new-for-2008 MSA British Race Academy is a ‘feeder’ programme to the MSA British Race Elite and will offer all of the same development opportunities, with the exception of the individualised one-to-one coaching that the Elite members receive.
Six MSA Race Elite drivers and the four British Race Academy winners will benefit from the programme, which will begin with a fitness assessment at the Department of Sports Development at the University of Bath.
The full programme will cover all areas of physical and mental preparation and training, track performance and developments, technical and engineering awareness in areas such as engine, gearbox, suspension, tyres and electronics’. It will also bring in experts to give advice on career management, media and promotional activities, sponsorship and presentation training.
The 17 year-old 2006 British kart champion will kick off his 2008 racing season, alongside Formula 1, at the Circuit De’ Cataluña, Barcelona on 25th/26th/27th April
