Sodi has obtained good performances from the very beginning of the season. Anthony Abbasse added a new podium to the already long list of awards of the French team at the second 2008 FFSA Karting Grand Prix held in Salbris, on 12 and 13 April, and remains one of the favourites to win the KZ2 title.
Regardless of whether they are French, Belgian, Finnish, Russian, British or even American, many of the pilots racing in the different French Championships have decided to use Sodi chassis in 2008. In Salbris, many of them were fighting at the head of the race, both during Race 1 (on Saturday), and on a soaking wet racetrack after very heavy rain in Race 2 on Sunday.
“Like in Lyon or in Angerville, where our team has spent the last few weeks, weather conditions were very bad but the Sodi chassis was extremely efficient and easy to use in all categories (with or without gearbox)”, said a member of the technical team. “It is very pleasing to see excellent times and results coming from different teams, different nationalities and different categories, all using our chassis”.
In KZ2, Anthony Abbasse proved once again to be a credible candidate to victory in the French Championship. 4th in timed qualifying and 3rd in the pre-final, he climbed to the second step of the podium in Race 1. “With his Sodi chassis, Anthony proved to be very fast the whole day, like several other pilots racing with our chassis”, said Gildas Mérian. “On Sunday, Alban Varutti scored the second best lap during the race”. At first his objective was to fight for victory in Race 2, but unfortunately Abbasse was stopped by a problem with his carburettor. His team mate Alban Varutti took the chance and staged an impressive recovery from 25th to 10th place in the final.
Loïc Reguillon (from Braun Racing Team) was the best of all Sodi pilots racing in KF2 and Sodi SR5 chassis also enabled other pilots to show their full potential. “In his debut in a FFSA Grand Prix, Finnish Jarno Hamppi (Team Eurokarting) immediately conquered the top ten and scored the second best lap in the pre-final, ahead of Reguillon” commented a Sodikart spokesman. “Moreover, young pilots like Andrea Barlesi, Vincent Gayde, Belgian Anthony Sauvan or Clément Bluy were at the head of the group, both in dry and in wet weather conditions, and let’s not forget Bluy’s exploit performance on a soaking wet racetrack on Sunday”. Sodi chassis has always been extremely reliable with all types of tyre in KF3 category. Tanguy Carel and Nelson De Carvalho had a chance to prove it. Nelson was very often at the head of the group and obtained two 5th places in a row. This is all very promising , while awaiting the last two races in Essay and Varennes sur Allier.
