Hanley to return to car racing in LMP2
European KF Champion Ben Hanley is to return to car racing with the DragonSpeed team’s ORECA-Nissan 05 in the LMP2 class.
The 31-year-old was a member of the Renault driver development scheme and a contemporary of Roman Grojean, but returned to karting with Maranello, ART and Mad Croc after his climb up the single-seater ladder stalled in 2009.
In sportscar racing drivers are rated platinum, gold, silver or bronze according to their previous results, and Hanley is rated silver due to his period of car inactivity, despite strong results when he raced in the Renault World Series and GP2.
Teams are restricted in how many of which level driver they can field, and how long they can spend in the car. This means Hanley is an attractive proposition for a team with a particular space to fill, especially as he has actually been racing intensively over the last six years.
Hanley’s team-mates will be Nicolas Lapierre and Henrik Hedman, and his first race will be on 19th April at Silverstone.
