Taoufik takes his debut win in OK-Junior
RFM driver Sami Taoufik took his first international win at the first round of the WSK Super Master Series at Castelletto, with OK-Junior being the only class that got any heats completed as they had some on Friday night. The rest were snowed off on Saturday.
The Belgian Ulysse De Pauw (BirelArt/Parilla) was aiming to dominate in OK-Junior and set the fastest time with his 48.632s. The Briton Fin Kenneally (FA Kart/Vortex) arrived at Castelletto as the favourite after his victory in Adria, but he was 0.053s slower than his rival. There was also a good performance for the Spaniard David Vidales (Energy/TM), 3rd ahead of the Moroccan Sami Taoufik (FA Kart/Vortex). In the first two heats, which took place in the evening, the first winner was the Swede Isaac Blomqvist (Tony Kart/Vortex) just ahead of Vidales. The second heat was won by Taoufik, with the Norwegian Dennis Hauger (CRG/Parilla) 2nd.
Taoufik started from pole position and kept the leadership of the race until the end, ahead of his main opponent, Blomqvist. While Taoufik gained ground over Blomqvist during the closing laps, Vidales secured 3rd place.
