Thompson wins despite stiff opposition at Kimbolton
The second round of the LGM series saw a win for O Plate holder Harry Thompson who kept his head throughout the intense Cadet pack racing. 46 drivers entered at the Kimbolton event which was combined with Super 4 but wasn’t a Kimbolton club meeting.
There were five heats with the wins going to Taylor Barnard, Bray Kenneally twice, Harry Thompson and Georgi Dimitrov. Thompson took pole ahead of Jonny Wilkinson, Kenneally and Barnard while Dimitrov was down in 17th after a DNF.
There had been a notice sent out to Clerks and MSA Stewards by the MSA regarding Cadet driving standards so everyone was on the alert.
Thompson held the lead at the start of the Final while Kenneally and O’Sullivan passed Wilkinson for 2nd and 3rd. A lead group of six formed, also including Barnard and Alicia Barrett while a chasing pack of seven formed too. Kenneally had a short turn in the lead while Barnard worked his way to the front and also led for a couple of laps. Thompson retook the lead but the fighting allowed the others to catch up, especially as Barrett and O’Sullivan were also fighting for their positions.
The top three stayed as Thompson, Wilkinson and Barnard and although Kenneally had taken 3rd on the last lap he was penalised 10s and dropped to 17th. O’Sullivan and Barrett also tangled and dropped to the back of the field, so Dimitrov, Draper and Rattican completed the top six.
