Basz dominates final Super Master weekend at Adria
Karol Basz won the Final but Lorenzo Travisanutto took the championship in OK at Adria in the WSK Super Master Series thanks to his better first half of the series.
Everything happened again in the final moments of the Qualifying session for OK at Adria which saw many changes of leader. Karol Basz (Kosmic / Vortex) finally took pole position with a lap of 48.497s against Konsta Lappalainen (Tony Kart / Vortex) and Martijn Van Leeuwen (Birel ART / Parilla). Paavo Tonteri (CRG / Parilla) finished 4th in front of Marta Garcia Lopez (Evokart / Parilla). Tom Joyner (Zanardi / Parilla) finished 7th, Clement Novalak (Tony Kart / Vortex) 9th ahead of Pedro Hiltbrand (CRG / Parilla) and Felice Tiene (CRG / Parilla), Logan Sargeant (FA Kart / Vortex) 13th and Ben Hanley (Croc Promotions / TM) 16th.
Hiltbrand lost 10 places and found himself last early in the first qualifying heat, Joyner dropped to 16th, while Van Leeuwen was leading the race against Lappalainen and Basz. Tiene dropped back in the pack. Van Leeuwen preserved his lead despite the urgent return of Basz and Tonteri took 3rd place ahead of Alexander Smoylar (Tony Kart / Vortex). Joyner came home in the top 10 behind Novalak, Jean-Baptiste Simmenauer (Tony Kart / Vortex) came back to 14th position ahead of Sargeant while Hiltbrand had to be satisfied with 19th position.
Van Leeuwen kept pace with the leader Basz during the first half of the second OK heat before giving in to Lorenzo Travisanutto (Tony Kart / Vortex) and Smolyar while Garcia moved up to 5th. Novalak crashed with Joyner and fell to the back of the pack, and Hanley retired with engine problems. Basz won by almost 2s ahead of Travisanutto, Smolyar and Van Leeuwen who were dogged by Tonteri. Joyner finished 7th, Simmenauer 11th ahead of Sargeant and Tiene, the fastest on the track who gained 13 positions.
As in the second race, Basz led from start to finish. Van Leeuwen was 2nd in the early laps, and was again distanced thereafter. Smolyar captured 2nd place and Garcia, with the fastest lap, overtook Joyner at the finish, while Travisanutto finished 5th. Hiltbrand was back in the race, taking 8th place ahead of Simmenauer, very consistent. There were retirements for Tiene and Sargeant.
Basz was the leader of the OK heats ahead of Van Leeuwen and Travisanutto, with Tonteri 4th, Garcia 5th and Joyner 6th. Simmenauer was in an 9th interesting place in front of Hiltbrand and Lundgaard, with Novalak 13th and Sargeant 16th.
Starting on pole, Basz was gradually overtaken by Joyner, while Travisanutto in 3rd, was followed by Garcia and Van Leeuwen. Gheno, Simmenauer and Sargeant had given up on the first lap in a collision. Garcia made a beautiful move up the inside on Travisanutto on the 10th lap. Meanwhile Hanley moved up to 6th position with a gain of 10 places. Hiltbrand retired before halfway while Tiene neared the top 10. Basz was better able to withstand Joyner and eventually imposed by more than a second. Garcia, in 3rd, set the fastest time at the end of race, ahead of Travisanutto and Hanley in 5th.
Basz held the lead solidly in the Final. Garcia was attacking Joyner under braking on lap 3 to take 2nd position in front of Travisanutto and Tonteri, while Hanley, still on track, gave up ground in 7th position. Joyner then fell to 9th behind Christian Lundgaard (Ricciardo / Parilla). Van Leeuwen was not in his element in 13th position, unlike Hiltbrand, and Sargeant launched a desperate comeback.
At halfway Basz was still in the lead by 0.7s from Garcia, but the gap was reduced, while Travisanutto was now 3rd by 1.8s. Smoylar took 4th ahead of Tonteri, and Tiene gained six places to 6th. Basz accelerated to avoid a Garcia attack and set the fastest time on the 15th lap. Basz won the race ahead of Garcia and Travisanutto, with Smoylar 4th, Tiene 5th, and Hanley 6th. Hiltbrand finished 14th (+9 places), Sargeant 15th (+11 places) and Simmenauer 16th (+9 places).
