CIK-FIA European Championship & Academy Trophy, Genk

Brits at Genk May 16, 2017

The second CIK meeting of 2017 at Genk included the first round of the Academy Trophy, the first round of the European KZ2 Championship, and the second round of the European KZ Championship.

Academy

Joseph Taylor was 2nd in the first Qualifying session, and the 101% rule due to big gaps between the groups meant he was 4th overall. With a heat win, a 2nd and a 5th he moved up to 3rd on the grid after the heats. In the Final he overtook for 2nd but towards the end he dropped back to 5th.

Alexander Simmonds qualified 22nd and after one heat with problems he qualified for the Final in 28th. He gained many places to cross the line 15th but was given a 10s spoiler penalty which dropped him to 21st.

KZ2

Sean Babington, racing under the UAE flag, finished 11th in his session in Qualifying and 26th overall. Two DNFs in the heats meant he was 42nd in the Intermediate Classification and with no Prefinals or Repechage his weekend ended there.
