Chamberlain does the double at Shenington
Welsh KF2 racer Jordan Chamberlain (Facebook|Website) hailed his double win in the Super One national karting championship at Shenington, Oxfordshire, as the best of his career, after a weekend where his only opposition came from within his own team. After the second race meeting out of seven in 2009, Jordan is now in the lead of the championship by four points.
“I was very confident leading up to the Shenington Super One as it is one of my favourite tracks and I always seem to do well there. We had been fast at the European Championship Qualifier at Angerville the week before and the engines were good so I was hoping for a result,” said the Williams Motorsport driver.
“We had been fast all Friday and Saturday morning, then when it came to timed qualifying I put it on pole by 8 hundredths over my team mate Shaun Carter, then I got my head down and won my first heat to end the day on a good note.”
The team were confident enough to experiment with the equipment, a Tonykart with a GFR-prepared TM engine. “On Sunday we used our second engine for Heat Two, which wasn’t as fast, but we still managed to get a win so I was pretty confident going into the finals,” explained Jordan.
He never looked in serious danger in the first points-scoring race – “I led from start to finish under pressure all the way from my team mate, but I held him off in the last few laps to take the win.”
Jordan had found even more speed for the second final, pulling clear of Carter, unrattled by a race held up by a startline crash. “We made some changes to the kart for the second final hoping to improve, and luckily enough it paid off and after the re-start (after the Slow flag, karting’s equivalent of the Safety Car) I managed to get a gap and get my head down, while the others behind were fighting, and I managed not to make any mistakes.”
A delighted Jordan exclaimed: “I’m over the moon now, I put this down as my best and biggest win by far!”
The next race will be the next round of the Super One on the first weekend of June, at Rowrah in Cumbria.
