Driver Update: Five wins in a row for Chamberlain
Jordan Chamberlain took his fifth win in a row at Whilton Mill, Northamptonshire, at the weekend in the KF2 Super One national championship. He has retained the championship lead and is now just past the midway point of the 14-race (seven event) season.
At the start of the meeting, it looked as though there could be problems ahead, but typically Jordan and his Williams Motorsport team worked through it to retain their place at the head of the field.
“We struggled a bit for pace but made some changes for qualifying, and then put in three flying laps that were 1.7 tenths faster than second-placed driver Shaun Carter, which I was very pleased by,” said Jordan.
“Then in Heat 1 I won the race with Shaun finishing second. Over night we re-built the engine and the next day I had Heat 2, where we found ourselves down on power as the engine we re-built had developed a problem, but I nursed it home in a steady fifth place which gave me a front row start next to pole sitter Chris Lock.”
“In Final 1 I struggled early on in the race, dropping back to sixth, but then a crash happened and the Battenberg flag came out, which bunched all the drivers up as we had to drive round in single file. On the re-start I took full advantage of the situation, immediately gaining three places. Then I slowly caught Shaun Carter, overtaking him then I hunted down Jake Ball who I made a manouvre on two laps before the flag.”
“In Final 2 I was pretty confident after winning the first final but I knew I was lucky in the previous race, and as the lights went green I took the lead, immediately pulling a big gap. Seven laps into the race I was caught by Lock and James Godbehere as my tyres had worked too hard in the earlier parts of the race and the previous final. As the race settled down I was able to take care of my engine and bring it home in a good point scoring third.”
Jordan is now leading the championship by 37 points from Carter, his teammate at Williams, and Final 2 winner Lock.
The next round will be at Nutts Corner in Northern Ireland on 23rd August, but before that is the final of the European Championship on 2nd August at Essay, France.
