FWT drivers to compete in GPO at Essay this weekend
The first phase of a strategic alliance to promote international karting will begin this week as drivers from the Formula Kart Productions Florida Winter Tour will compete in the third round of the 2009 Grand Prix Open Karting FFSA Championship in Essay, France June 5-7.
The alliance, formed in February, was created “to generally promote international competition in the world karting categories, and specifically to provide opportunities for FWT and GPO competitors to compete in these popular and prestigious series.” In an effort to facilitate these goals the promoter of the French Championship, 13eme Avenue Organisation, has awarded select FWT drivers entry, tires, fuel and oil for one round of the 2009 GPO. Formula Kart will provide select GPO drivers the same incentives for the first round of the 2010 FWT.
Representing the FWT at the Essay round will be two official Ocala Gran Prix team drivers. Brazilian Victor Pedrosa will compete in KF2. U.S. driver Nick Neri will compete in KF3. Both drivers will be racing under the Koene Racing Tony Kart tent, with support from Ocala Gran Prix.
The Formula Kart Productions Florida Winter Tour ( FWT ) is one of the largest and longest running kart racing series in the Americas. It features the largest official Rotax Max Challenge series in the world. The recently completed 11th annual edition included 486 unique competitors from 27 different countries, 28 U.S. States and 5 Canadian Provinces, and paid out cash and awards exceeding $142,000.
