Snap-On Stars of Karting Announces 2009 Cadet Class Structure
The great wheel-to-wheel action from the Cadet class will return to the Snap-on Stars of Karting Series in 2009 with minor changes from the 2008 championship. The only technical change made to the Cadet class is the increase in overall weight from 225 to 235 lbs while other changes can be seen in event weekend proceedings and drivers licensing criteria.
Cadet drivers will now be timed and subject to technical inspection in the final two scheduled practice sessions of the official practice day of an event weekend. Any driver not exhibiting a lap time that is within 107% of the fast time achieved in each or both of those two timed practice sessions will not be allowed to continue in the event weekend. Any driver(s) in this situation will receive no points for their participation in the event.
The age for the Cadet category shall be 8 to 12 years of age only. A driver’s actual age as of December 20, 2008 shall establish his/her “competition age” for the 2009 competition year. Drivers under the required minimum age for a category may start the 2009 competition year provided they have met the age requirement for the category they are participating in on or before July 1, 2009.
Drivers wishing to advance to a more senior category representing the next higher age requirement from their current category may do so provided they have met the age requirement for the next higher category on or before July 1, 2009. If a driver’s birthday occurs after July 1, 2009, they may advance to the next higher age requirement, on or after their birthday that qualifies them to advance to the next higher age requirement.
Once a driver advances to and competes in the next higher age category in any verifiable National karting competition series, tour or race, at any level, from January 1, 2009 through October 31, 2009, he/she must continue to compete at that age category in Snap-on Stars of Karting competition, and may no longer compete at the lower age category under pain of penalty.
