February 18, 2013 Lorandi dominates KFJ

l Winter Cup, Lonato

Alessio Lorandi (Tony/Vortex) continued his crushing domination in KFJ (KF3) while Dan Ticktum (Alonso/Vortex) who had given him some opposition in the heats, was forced to make a recovery and couldn’t challenge for the win.

The Repechage was marked by a spectacular collision at the first corner, a very fast right. Bryan Elpitiya (Zanardi/Parilla) went flying which led to the “slow” procedure for the rest and a check up in hospital for him.

At the restart, Julien Darras (Tony/Vortex) briefly grabbed 5th position, but his defence from Leonardo Lorandi (Tony/Vortex) ended badly. Starting 15th, French driver Amaury Bonduel (ART/TM) came back brilliantly to 4th. Petrut Florescu (Zanardi/Parilla) was first on the line, but was ousted by a penalty of 10s which benefited Sasakorn Chaimongkol (ART/TM).

Alessio Lorandi won the Prefinal with a more than 5s lead ahead of Martijn Van Leeuwen (Zanardi/Parilla). The Brazilian Sereia broke down on the 15th lap and let Max Defourny (Kosmic/TM) recover 3rd place after a fight against David Beckman and Lando Norris (Alonso/Vortex).

The supremacy of Alessio Lorandi wasn’t contested in the Final any more than it had been throughout the meeting and he won the Final without being seriously threatened by his opponents. Van Leeuwen was on the second step of the podium, but the recovery of Ticktum in 3rd position provided the excitement. Beckman (Zanardi/Parilla) finished 4th. Defourny retired while he was fighting with Norris, ultimately 5th in the race. Gabriel Aubry (Birel/TM) put in a good performance in 6th position ahead of Happalainen and Thompson.
