Jack Hawksworth had to dig deep in his latest karting appearance – the final meeting on the prestigious 2008 CIK-FIA European Championship calendar – but his efforts would prove to be more than worthwhile, as he ended the campaign with a rostrum flourish.
This weekend the French circuit of Varennes-sur-Allier hosted the Karting World Cup for KZ1 (the top category of gearbox karts) and the European KZ2 (second division of gearbox karts) and KF3 (Juniors) Championship finals. In an unexpected sunshine and before several thousand spectators, the Belgian Jonathan Thonon (CRG-Maxter) renewed his world KZ1 title while the Frenchman Tony Lavanant (Energy-TM) in KZ2 and the young ...
Title-holder Jonathan Thonon (BE, CRG/Maxter) won the KZ1 World Cup from Marco Ardigo (IT, Tonykart/Vortex); Tony Lavanant (FR, Energy/TM) won the KZ2 European Championship with both race wins going to Kevin Jansen (NL, Energy/TM); and Aaro Vainio (FI, Maranello/Maxter) is now the European KF3 Champion.

In KF1 Marco Ardigo (Tony Kart/Vortex) is back on course for the title which will be decided at the final in Portugal following his two race wins whilst Joffrey Demanse had a fine showing in KZ2.
With its many qualifying races which determine the 34 qualifiers for Sunday’s starting grid, the Saturday is traditionally a testing and competitive time in the European Championship. Jonathon Thonon dominated KZ1 but the competition has been fierce in KF1 and KZ2.
