Exciting young karting star Jack Hawksworth may have seen his chances of lifting the laurels in the prestigious CIK-FIA European KZ2 Championship snatched away from him by foul play on the part of one of his rivals – but he acknowledges that with nothing left to lose, he will be going all-out for glory in the final round of the 2008 campaign.
Rising young motor racing star Jack Hawksworth may have been up against it in the latest round of the German KZ2 Championship at Ampfing, but he did not let that deter him as he produced a sublime performance to see off the cream of international opposition.
Following an encouraging start to his WSK International Series challenge at Angerville, Jack Hawksworth returned to the French track in search of a similarly strong performance in the opening meeting on the 2008 European Championship calendar – and he duly delivered.
The first challenge for karting’s European Championships which took place this weekend at Angerville in France, produced the most varied result possible with 6 different winners in as many races.
Jack led the KZ2 field home by several seconds, but was placed seventh after he was given a ten second penalty for a jumped start. He says he thought the delay on the lights was longer than it actually was so went too soon, and knew he was going to get the penalty. Tony Lavanant (FR, Energy/TM) won after holding off Joffrey Demanse (FR, PCR/TM) for half the race.
KZ2 driver Jack Hawksworth (GB, Gillard/TM) has comfortably won his three heats so far so should be on pole tomorrow barring problems in his last heat tomorrow. This is particularly impressive considering his lack of experience at this level, although he was a seasoned European Junior Rotax competitor.
