The CIK Asia-Pacific Championship has established itself as the season-closing event for the premier class and draws an entry composed of European professionals and Asia’s most talented drivers.
Jack Harvey narrowly missed out on a podium result in the CIK FIA Asia Pacific KF1 championship in Macau at the weekend. However, the reigning KF2 champion sealed his place in the top flight of karting as he took fifth place and the honour of being the top British driver over the course of the meeting.
Marco Ardigo (IT, Tonykart/Vortex) has added another 2008 title to his collection after his win at the Asia-Pacific Championship. Good showings also for Jack Harvey (GB, Birel/Parilla) and Robert Foster-Jones (GB, Alonso/Vortex).
Carlos Sainz (ES, Alonso/Vortex) took one of his first international wins at Macau, with almost six seconds in hand against Danil Kvyat (RU, Alonso/Vortex).
Only two weeks after hosting its traditional Formula 3 event and the final of the FIA World Touring Car Championship, Macau is preparing to welcome Karting aces for the CIK-FIA Asia-Pacific KF1 and KF3 Championships. For international racers it will be the last major event of a very busy season, but for participants the 2008 edition of the Asia-Pacific Championship will also – or mainly – be a dress rehearsal before the World Championship which the Automobile Association of Macau-China (AAMC) will be privileged to organise in 2009 (from 9 to 11 October).
The Juniors race for one of the last times in 2008 at Macau and on recent form Danil Kvyat must be the favorite, but he will need to watch out for Sainz and Grenhagen.
The final international race of the year, the Asia-Pacific Championship, takes place this weekend at Macau, China. The track is the one due to be used for the World Championship in 2009.
